How does the total number of recipe objects scale between the Consolidated Recipe (CR) Model and the Partitioned Recipe Object (PRO) Model as the number of recipes and tools increase?

With the increasing complexity of recipes on manufacturing equipment, we need to devise ways to efficiently manage the recipes and their components in a recipe management system. The data model used to model the recipe components can affect the total number of recipe objects that need to be managed and in turn affect the overall effort needed to manage and maintain these recipes. We explore two opposing types of recipe models: the Consolidated Recipe (CR) Model and the Partitioned Recipe Object (PRO) Model. The CR model encapsulates all recipe components into one object while the PRO Model separates and shares common recipe components.

In this paper, we explore how the total number of recipe objects scales between these two models as the number of recipes and tools increase.

Exploration of the challenges a recipe management system faces in the current manufacturing context

As the manufacturing processes and the equipment become more complex, the number and the complexity of the recipes grows as well. Recipe management systems face the challenge of modelling and managing a growing number of physical recipes in a centralized manner for the complete fab. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a set of techniques regarding data modelling and management in a recipe management system, in order to reduce the duplication of data and the risk of human errors in recipe setup for new technologies, products or production equipment instances.

In this white paper we have explored the challenges a recipe management system faces in the current manufacturing context and presented a number of techniques having the reduction of the recipe objects stored in the system as the goal. Having a reduced number of recipe objects streamlines the modeling of the fab recipes, improves the system performance and reduces the risk of human errors during setup.
