Lecture, simulation of specific scenarios, discussion of examples for application, and exercises. Simulations and practical exercises can be done independently on a laptop.

Target groups

This seminar with exercises is aimed at (process) engineers and scientists who want to use their resources for the evaluation of running processes optimally and brush up on their basic knowledge of statistics.

Method

The lecture with application examples is supplemented by practical exercises on your computer. Please, bring a laptop with you. You will receive a temporary version of the Cornerstone software application for installation before the course begins.

This course with exercises is aimed at technicians, laboratory workers, engineers, and scientists who would like to optimally use their resources for trials and to learn basic statistics.

Theo Wember

Theo Wember has been working as a freelance statistician since 1988. His main focus is on  Design of Experiments (DoE) but he also works in other areas of technical statistics (reliability engineering, sensitivity analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, root cause analysis, and process data analysis). In the last decade, all these challenges have merged into machine learning projects. He spends the greater part of his working time on courses which are often followed by customer projects. General project work with a focus on technical statistics in German or English completes his portfolio.

Dr. Wember is also a member of the “camLine Cornerstone board”.

Guidance and courses

From its origin, statistics is hardcore mathematics which Dr. Wember manages to make the subject accessible for engineers with trainings and as a consultant. Content is built up on flipcharts and, step by step, the walls are filled with informative graphics. All courses are based on the same elementary statistical principles. The course repertoire comprises DoE, MSA, survival analysis, regression analyses, and Monte Carlo simulations—as well as any combination of these. The content is covered in a German spoken book, “Technische Statistik und statistische Versuchsplanung” and a second upcoming monography about “Design of Experiments and its Impact on Machine Learning”. These books are also used as additional course materials and reflect almost legendary his decades of experience in technical statistics.

In her work as a consultant and trainer Ms. Fischer relies on her experiences as a process and integration engineer in the semiconductor industry. The graduate physicist is well-versed in data-based process optimization, statistical process control (SPC), process window studies and design of experiments (DoE). With a PhD in Didactics of Physics she strives to elegantly and effectively visualize relevant data and its correlations in the clearest possible way.

Marten Walther

For over 20 years, Marten Walther has been active in the glass industry holding various functions from product development up to product group manager. This experience allowed him to gain a deep understanding of various sectors from different points of view. At every position he has held so far, he has experienced the strength of methodical approaches using a well-founded system with data analysis rather than trial and error approaches. At the SCHOTT academy, he acted as a trainer for the Six Sigma modules “Explorative Data Analysis” and “Design of Experiments”. He now uses this experience and his wide range of technological expertise as a consultant and trainer in a broad range of companies and industries focusing on the area of process development and production stabilization.

A systematic approach and data-based decisions are the best foundation for the effective development and stabilization of processes. Both skills are firmly rooted in his portfolio of skills, and Dr. Walther intensively relies on them when carrying out his consulting and training activities. His consulting includes support in project work in which he offers design of experiments and data analysis as a service. In addition, training offerings are geared towards building these skills to allow you to independently carry out such projects in your field of work. On the one hand, this comprises trainings on statistical data analysis like “Design of Experiments (DoE)”, “Explorative data analysis” and “Statistical Process Control (SPC)”. On the other hand, he offers training sessions to efficiently use the Six Sigma systematics for your projects. All trainings combine theory and practice in which you will evaluate sample data directly on your laptop with Cornerstone software.

After gathering over 20 years of experience as an engineer in projects in Germany and abroad, he now passes on his knowledge as a technical consultant. His focus: Conveying data analysis principles for process optimization with a focus on the user.

Efficiently using production data and intelligently designing and analyzing experiments for better product quality and production stability—this is what drives Mr. Ollendorf. As a physicist in the semiconductor industry, he has gained a deep understanding of technical and physical interrelationships in this high-tech industry. On his journey from individual processes to process integration, he has developed extensive methodical expertise, indispensable in product development and the quick realization of stable, high-volume production. This methods are increasingly used in other industries as well. Initially, the semiconductor industry assumed a trailblazing role in big data; by now, it has established itself in many fields of industry. Mr Ollendorf teaches how to analyze available data and complement it with well-designed experiments, for a better understanding of processes, greater production efficiency, and higher product quality—always with a focus on the user.

Claudia Wahl

Over 30 years of experience in the semi-conductor industry with SPC, DoE, and Six Sigma projects in development, production, experiments, and logistics in international teams. Certification of Six Sigma Greenbelts, active as a freelance consultant and trainer since September 2017, with a focus on DoE and SPC.

Guidance and courses

The course repertoire comprises DoE, SPC, and the accompaniment of entry projects in German and English. As a Six Sigma Blackbelt, she looks forward to supporting the Six Sigma Greenbelts in your company as they carry out Six Sigma projects.
